The in-house jewellery repairers at Sparks Bristol are hosting jewellery making workshops. Every week they will bring a new theme and teach people to create different pieces such as necklaces and bracelets.

Workshops will start with a quick demonstration, then you’ll dive straight into creating your own piece using tools and materials provided. Experts will be on hand throughout the session to guide you, offer tips and answer any questions.

Expect a super fun, hands-on session- and you’ll walk away with a gorgeous new piece of jewellery you made yourself!

The United Nations has approached the city to host its 80th anniversary exhibition, “Shared Lives, Shared Future,” celebrating the impact of the UN and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The exhibition brings together over 200 inspiring stories from around the world, showcasing how the UN shapes our daily lives—from peace and security to humanitarian action and sustainable development. Bristol will be showcasing 35 curated panels.
Bristol has a strong and active relationship with the United Nations system, including leadership through the UN Forum of Mayors, citywide action on the SDGs through the One City Approach, and its designations as both a UNESCO City of Film and UNESCO Learning City.
The exhibition will provide a free and accessible cultural experience in the heart of the city, inviting residents, visitors, schools and community groups to engage with global issues through a local lens. Exploring themes such as climate action, migration, inequality and sustainable development, it will create opportunities for learning, reflection and dialogue while highlighting Bristol’s role as an internationally connected city committed to positive change. Launching in September to coincide with the UN General Assembly and SDG Flag Day, the exhibition forms part of a wider programme of activity celebrating Bristol’s international partnerships and showcasing how global goals can be translated into meaningful local action.

Join us at the SPARKS Repair Café every Sunday to mend your things!

We are volunteer run and operate every Sunday from 11:30-16:30 offering two different service options.

Option 1: Busy Bee- Leave your item with us for up to a month for us to work on.

Option 2: Eager Beaver- Spend some time with us learning how to fix your items, all tools and expertise provided.

We are a drop in service but please be aware that due to our busy city centre location we often reach capacity. Because of this we ask that each customer only bring 1 item to repair with a maximum of 2 items per month. Due to insurance, our space is for over 18’s only and we are unable to repair large bulky items, microwaves or large power tools.

We can’t wait to share our expertise with you, keep an eye out for our fun and knowledgeable workshops we will be holding throughout the year!

Gather is exactly what it says, a place to gather with others in conversation or in quiet. A place to find community, rest or a place to simply just be. Two community pioneers from the Flourish Framework will host & supply simple conversation starters as well as small table-top activities.

Break Down Barriers is a Community Interest Company (CIC), dedicated to empowering and supporting various marginalised groups, including NEET individuals (Not in Education, Employment, or Training), those at risk of offending, young offenders, and disadvantaged young people in Bristol and surrounding areas.

We specialise in providing targeted support to NEET learners, focusing on helping young individuals overcome the barriers that have led to their disengagement. Through interventions and mentoring, we work closely with these individuals to identify and address the root causes. Our approach is centred on understanding their unique circumstances and empowering them to take positive steps forward.

Community Threads is a friendly and free sewing group for women from ethnic minority backgrounds to learn basic sewing skills, sewing machine usage, embroidery and textile styles from different cultures. We reuse fabrics and textiles, experiment, learn from each other and chat over hot drinks and biscuits.

It is a free weekly group that runs on Fridays from 12:30pm to 3:30pm in the Sparks Bristol ground floor Department Of Discovery.

Meditation on Twin Hearts is an active meditation that has been scientifically validated to :
-substantially reduce stress and anxiety
-increase cognitive behaviour and memory recall

You will be hosted by Lisa and Meret, founders of the Slow Fashion Studio and their friend and climate campaigner Tori Tsui. Throughout this afternoon you’ll create a space that will invite you to engage with your clothing in a different way, sparking your imagination and engaging your creativity.

Talks:
Radical conversations on climate justice and ethical fashion led by activist Tori Tsui, alongside local change-makers.

Clothes Swap:
Time to have a look through your wardrobe and swap unloved items for pre-loved ones.

3rd October, 1 – 6pm, at the Slow Fashion Studio on the ground floor of Sparks Bristol.

Join Rethrindle and Rebel Patch at the Slow Fashion Studio for their monthly Fabric Sale and Stitch Social (always the 2nd Saturday of the month).

11am-4pm: Reclaimed fabric sale – Rummage through second-hand and reclaimed fabrics, trims and haberdashery and find materials for your next sewing project!

1-4pm: Come along to the stitch social (drop in anytime) – Stitch in community, exchange tips and techniques and have a natter with fellow sewists and creatives. Have a rummage through your mending pile or bring your latest embroidery project along. Meret and Lisa will be on hand to share tips and their favourite techniques.

This is your monthly chance to get creative in community and to get everything you need for your next project. We’ll have some materials at hand for you to use, but you’re welcome to bring your own as well.

The event is ticketed on a pay-what-you-can basis with a minimum for joining the stitch social. There’s concession tickets available for anyone who needs it. This event is a collaboration between Rethrindle CIC and Rebel Patch, two small slow fashion organisations, aiming to make sewing inclusive and accessible to everyone. This is why we try to make our workshops as affordable as possible. Please consider what you can afford, because every pound more helps us create an accessible sewing/creative space.

We provide a variety of LGBTQIA+ books to children and young people, completely free, keep them as long as you like. We’ll be available for book borrowing, book returning and a space for young people to sit, read and chat about LGBTQIA+ books.
