The United Nations has approached the city to host its 80th anniversary exhibition, “Shared Lives, Shared Future,” celebrating the impact of the UN and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The exhibition brings together over 200 inspiring stories from around the world, showcasing how the UN shapes our daily lives—from peace and security to humanitarian action and sustainable development. Bristol will be showcasing 35 curated panels.
Bristol has a strong and active relationship with the United Nations system, including leadership through the UN Forum of Mayors, citywide action on the SDGs through the One City Approach, and its designations as both a UNESCO City of Film and UNESCO Learning City.
The exhibition will provide a free and accessible cultural experience in the heart of the city, inviting residents, visitors, schools and community groups to engage with global issues through a local lens. Exploring themes such as climate action, migration, inequality and sustainable development, it will create opportunities for learning, reflection and dialogue while highlighting Bristol’s role as an internationally connected city committed to positive change. Launching in September to coincide with the UN General Assembly and SDG Flag Day, the exhibition forms part of a wider programme of activity celebrating Bristol’s international partnerships and showcasing how global goals can be translated into meaningful local action.
